A monthlong celebration kicks off this weekend to highlight Hispanic and Latino heritage.
The Tulsa Global District said Saturday will be about blending cultures during what they call the largest Hispanic festival in Tulsa.
The Tulsa Global District was founded in 2020 and supports local businesses, promotes the area's diverse culture, and works to create a safe and welcoming neighborhood.
The organization is partnering with the Tulsa Area Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to host Hispanic Heritage Day.
Alejandro Garcia, with Tulsa Global District, said this weekend’s event will include food and fun activities for the whole family.
21 countries will be represented, including Mexican, Guatemalan, and Venezuelan cultures.
Garcia said that Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to educate others.
“It’s not an opportunity that happens just once a year, but it’s something that we're attached to all the time," Garcia said. "But it’s probably that time that we’re closer to our roots and where we come from and pass all of the traditions to the new generation and also to share with new people who probably didn’t know that existed."
The festival is free and runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 1801 S. Garnett Road. Hispanic Heritage Month runs through October 15th.
