R Mason Thomas Is The Nagurski Trophy National Defensive Player of The Week

University of Oklahoma junior defensive lineman R Mason Thomas was named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week for his standout performance in OU's 34-19 victory over Tulane.

Thomas, making his third career start, registered a career-high 3.0 tackles for loss, all of which were fourth-quarter sacks. He also forced and recovered a fumble, broke up a pass, and added a quarterback hurry. Notably, he had a sack on first down, a pass breakup on third down, and another sack on fourth down during one crucial series.

Thomas is the first Sooner to record three sacks in a game since Nik Bonitto in 2020. His three sacks tied for the national high this season and the SEC lead. His efforts were instrumental in limiting Tulane to 279 total yards, down from 491 the previous week.

Oklahoma (3-0) will play its first SEC game on Saturday against Tennessee (3-0) at 6:30 p.m. at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
