The Osage Nation expanded its senior housing solutions with another elderly living community in Hominy.

With 20 new units, the senior living community was the newest of three for the Osage Nation.

It was a big day for the Osage Nation, as members of the tribe gathered to celebrate the completion of a recent project.

“We have senior housing in Pawhuska, and we have senior housing in Fairfax which is our Grayhorse community, and now we have senior housing in Hominy,” said Osage Nation Congresswoman Alice Goodfox.

Ten brand new duplexes that would house elders of the Osage Nation, each unit came with two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen and a single car garage.

“They also have saferooms that are in the unit and so our elders are able to be in a secure location during storms,” said Goodfox.

As people took their first look at the new housing, some couldn't help but feel all the emotions.

“I got to see their smiles, I was able to hear their laughter, I was able to see their tears, and it is a dream come true really for some of these individuals, for our elders who are going to be here,” Goodfox said.

Elders like Dolores Davis.

“This is a blessing, you don't know, I'm about to cry,” she said.

Davis would move into her unit in a few weeks, with her favorite part being the shower.

“I'm just so excited, I've been excited ever since February. I'm just so happy and it's finally here.”

For tribal leaders, these are some of the folks they care about most, and taking care of them is important. “They raised us, they taught us everything they know about our culture, our language, and traditions, and so taking care of them is the right thing to do,” Goodfox said.

There is currently a waitlist to move into the Osage Nation Senior Housing facilities.
