‘I Just Fell In Love With It’: Broken Arrow Teen Gets Pilot’s License, Soars To New Heights

While his friends were earning their driver's licenses, a Broken Arrow teenager was getting his pilot's license.

He hopes to turn his love of flying into a future career.

At a young age, Coleman McCollough had a dream of soaring among the clouds.

“It was the first time I was ever in an airplane, and I mean, the feeling of taking off and landing and that kind of heavy feeling whenever you make a turn, that was just what caught me,” he said. “I just fell in love with it.”

He channeled that passion into earning his pilot's license.

For two years, his days were filled with intense study lessons and 70 hours of hands-on flight training.

It paid off. At seventeen years old, Coleman is manning the master control all by himself.

“It was a freeing feeling. I was finally up there all by myself. Just doing it on my own. I felt like I accomplished something. I was so proud, and I accomplished it,” he said.

While taking this plane to new heights, Coleman says it's easy to think about his future. He hopes to one day turn this from a hobby into a profession.

“Maybe fly for a commercial airline or in the military,” he said.

He may be young, but there’s a lesson we can all learn: Never let age limit your potential to reach the sky.

“Try it, do it, and the worst thing that can happen is you have to wait a few years, but an early start on anything will never hurt,” he said.
