The Susan G. Komen Race for the cure raised $200,000 in Tulsa on Saturday. The Walk for Breast Cancer raises money for advocacy, support and research.
Oklahoma's Own LeAnne Taylor rallied with survivors at the Race for the Cure.
LeAnne beat breast cancer 21 years ago this November and makes it to the race every year.
The Race for the Cure in Tulsa draws hundreds of people with different stories of how breast cancer has affected their lives.
Lindsey Roberts is a seven-year survivor and her diagnosis came as a shock at just 31 years old.
"(I) Had no family history, it was a complete surprise. Young and healthy otherwise. and I was actually eight months pregnant at the time," said Roberts.
Thanks to organizations like Susan G. Komen for the Cure Lindsey and other survivors like her have a place to connect.
"Everybody's journey is different but to have others that have walked a similar road is amazing support," said Roberts.
Shari Holdman is the Executive Director for Susan G. Komen in Oklahoma and knows how special this event is.
"We bring women and men together to not only celebrate their journey, support those that may be walking through it but also lift up those that may also need their help," said Holdman.
The race also brings together family and friends who fight alongside their loved ones.
Georgina Mishkin was the first female runner across the finish line on Saturday in a show of support for a loved one.
I have a very close family member that was just diagnosed with breast cancer and it's very special for me to be out here and it's my first run with my daughter, so, it means a lot," said Mishkin.
Survivors call this a "club you never want to be part of" and encourage women and men to stay on top of their health.
"Always, Always just get anything checked. Do the self-checks, the self-examinations and if you find something go and get it checked and be your own advocate," said Roberts.
