'Bullying Has Got To Stop': Broken Arrow Middle Schooler Assaulted By Student On School Bus, Video Shows

A phone video shows 12-year-old BrookeLynn Harrell being hit repeatedly and having her hair pulled by another student while others record it.

It happened last Wednesday on a Broken Arrow school bus. Videos from other angles show the same attack.

“That's what got me all worked up,” said BrookeLynn's dad, Stephen. 

When he watches the videos, he's heartbroken and angry.

“Why isn’t anybody doing anything?” he said. 

Broken Arrow Public Schools says it happened while kids were getting on the bus after school. When the bus driver felt like a fight might happen, he stepped out to tell someone. And, when he got back, it was already happening.

Stephen says the student and his daughter have several classes together and BrookeLynn has made three reports.

“She has told them about this girl bullying her,” he said. 

Stephen has also filed a police report.

“One of my main questions Thursday afternoon, I said, ‘Is my daughter going to be safe going to school, because right now, I don’t feel like she’s safe’,” he said. 

Broken Arrow Police say they can't talk about specifics since juveniles are involved, but are investigating and have officers who work directly with BAPS.

“Sometimes, if we're aware of an issue that may happen at the end of the school day, we'll have officers in the area in close proximity. In the event we have other issues arise, and then when we have other issues that continue to happen at a specific school site, sometimes we'll have an officer there at the school in and out throughout the day, just so there's a police presence,” said Major Stephen Garrett with the Broken Arrow Police Department. 

Stephen says he wishes one of the other kids would've stepped in to help.

“If you see something going on, jump in and help the next person, that’s what we’re supposed to do, this bullying has got to stop,” he said.
