Human remains were discovered near the Bengal Community on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, prompting a multiagency investigation, authorities have confirmed.
At approximately 12:34 p.m., a citizen notified Latimer County Sheriff Adam Woodruff of possible human remains found on their property located off Highway 82 South, just east of the Latimer County line in LeFlore County. Sheriff Woodruff, along with Undersheriff Markus Ward and Chief Deputy Smith, responded to the scene.
Upon confirmation that the remains were human, the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), the District 16 District Attorney's Office, and the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office were called to investigate.
Over two days, officials searched the area, gathering evidence and recovering the remains, which will be sent to the Medical Examiner's office for identification.
“This is an ongoing investigation involving LeFlore County, OSBI, and the FBI,” said Sheriff Woodruff. “We will not comment further at this time.” He also expressed gratitude to all agencies involved, especially Latimer County Emergency Management, and extended thoughts and prayers to the family of the deceased.
Further updates are pending as the investigation continues.
