A new partnership in Tulsa is making it easy for women to give their old clothes a new purpose.

During the month of October, Fox Cleaners and Dress for Success Tulsa are teaming up on an initiative called EmpowerWear.

"We are taking donations in store at our location on 41st and Harvard, but we are also really promoting it and putting it out to our customers that are already on our existing routes," said Fox Cleaners owner Maggie Fox.

The business is collecting gently used women's professional and casual attire to donate to Dress for Success Tulsa.

"We help ladies, when they are seeking employment, with their clothing," said executive director Katherine Skorvaga. "They will come see us for interview suiting and get three full outfits at no cost to them and then once they get the job and show proof of employment they get four more outfits."

Right now, the nonprofit is especially in need of fall and winter workwear, plus sized clothes, and shoes size 9 and up.

"It just helps them feel more confident at the interview," Skorvaga said. "They leave there going I am going to get this job and we are like yes you are girl, so it is just empowering women."

That is what Fox said drew her to EmpowerWear. "When all this came about what I kept thinking was how useful this would have been for my mother who was a single mom with four kids, who worked in the corporate world, and that would have been a game changer for her," she added.

To make giving as easy as possible, Fox Cleaners is handing out special garment bags to its customers to fill with donated clothing.

"This is a time of year where people are cleaning out their closets maybe, so we are just kind of putting the bug in their ear that if they have anything extra, they can put it with your regular pickup and delivery, and we will take care of the rest," said Fox.

Those that are not customers but would still like to give can drop-off donations at Fox Cleaners at 4102 S Harvard Ave. during business hours or by using their 24/7 kiosk.
