Broken Arrow Police Make 2 Kidnapping Arrests In 2 Days

Broken Arrow police made two unrelated kidnapping arrests in two days.

In both cases, the victims were adults and they knew their kidnappers and the interactions started out consensual.

"In these two instances, I will say they are unique in a sense, where one of them was a former family member and then the other one, this one with the truck driver. They were friends online, so it wasn't something where it was a stranger-on-stranger incident," said Ethan Hutchins, BAPD public information coordinator.

Police say they arrested a truck driver named Jerry Lee Newman on Tuesday at the Walmart on Elm in Broken Arrow. They say he sexually assaulted and kidnapped a man he had driven to Oklahoma from Kansas City. Investigators say the two met there and drove to Oklahoma as part of a planned trip. At some point, the trip took a turn as they neared Broken Arrow.

"The victim claims that Mr. Newman tried to aggressively engage in some kind of sexual activity with the victim. The victim mentioned to our officers he tried to get out of the vehicle, that truck, and Mr. Newman would not allow that, and so whenever they ended up getting to Broken Arrow, that victim was able to escape from the truck, and he texted 911 asking for help," said Hutchins.

In a different case, police say they arrested Keith McCaslin on Monday for kidnapping, domestic assault, sexual battery, and public intoxication.

Police say they received two calls about McCaslin and a younger woman inside a vehicle engaged in sexual activity. Police say the victim said she and McCaslin were family friends and that she was being assaulted and held against her will.

"So unfortunately, these kinds of incidents happen in our community and also in any community, and our department is very focused on trying to investigate these incidents and bring these suspects into custody," said Hutchins.
