Oklahoma High School Filmmakers Shine At All-American High School Film Festival

Six Oklahoma filmmakers are showcasing their work at the All-American High School Film Festival in New York City, highlighting emerging local talent in visual storytelling.

Six filmmakers from Oklahoma are set to showcase their work at the All-American High School Film Festival (AAHSFF) in New York City this weekend. Among them, four hail from Oklahoma City and two from Tulsa.

Julian Felix Aaronson, a graduate of Holland Hall, is now studying film at New York University. His film, “The Overlocks’ Dilemma,” made it into the festival and will screen on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Lucas J.J., who graduated from Epic Charter School, will screen his film, “Self-Reflecting,” on Saturday between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. His Director of Photography, Will Renner, also graduated from Holland Hall.

Zoe Epperson's film “A Tribute to the Starry-Eyed Girl” was featured on the Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch in July when it was screened at Circle Cinema. Her film will screen on Saturday between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Tom Oliva, Co-Founder and Executive Director of AAHSFF expressed excitement about the Oklahoma filmmakers, stating, "Six films created by talented students from Oklahoma, young filmmakers who create without limits and embrace our mission to pursue their passion for visual storytelling at the highest level."

The other filmmakers representing Oklahoma at the 2024 AAHSFF include:

  1. “Embrace the Monster” by Austin Hamilton Le will be shown on Sunday between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
  2. “Interloper” by Mora Ortiz Thölke will be shown on Sunday between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
  3. “Happiness in the Palm of Her Hand” by Ella Janes will be shown on Saturday between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The AAHSFF serves as the premier destination for high school filmmakers and media arts enthusiasts. Each year, the festival provides a platform for the next generation of filmmakers to screen their work, learn from industry professionals, and connect with educational opportunities.

The festival received over 2,500 submissions in 2024 from all 50 states and more than 50 countries.
