Fire crews say a fallen power line caused a grass fire in Wagoner County northeast of Broken Arrow Monday.
News On 6 talked to several neighbors off camera who are back in their homes Monday after being evacuated during the fire.
They're thankful for how fast firefighters got there.
Riley Shepherd, the Oak Grove Fire Chief, says one of his firefighters saw the smoke coming from near 21st Street and 273rd East Avenue, and that's why they got there so fast, but it was still hard to get to because of where it was located.
He says they focused on keeping the homes nearby from catching on fire.
Shepherd says he’s thankful for things like drones, and infrared cameras that help them fight fires like this one.
“Now, we’ve got it contained, we’re just working on hot spots and access, getting to the hot spots," said Shepherd. We got a drone that’s being flown by Wagoner County EM, they got infrared, so that’s helping us a lot. We’ve got multiple side-by-side UTV’s out here, we’ve got more than one of these drones. That’s really helpful because the UTVs can obviously get places where the full-sized trucks can’t, they don’t carry as much water but they’re more versatile. The drones can give us a birds-eye view of what’s going on."
Shepherd also says several other fire departments helped them make sure no homes were affected, and no one was hurt.
