Donald Trump has been elected as the 47th president of the United States, marking a significant comeback and making him the first former president to return to the White House since Grover Cleveland in 1892.
Trump secured victory with a win in Wisconsin, crossing the 270 electoral vote threshold.
In Oklahoma, Trump won decisively, continuing the state’s history of voting overwhelmingly Republican in presidential elections. Voter turnout in Oklahoma was slightly down according to the state Election Board. 64% of registered voters turned out for the election down from 69% in 2020. Despite the growth in registered voters in the state since 2020, only about 3,874 more Oklahomans voted in the presidential election.
In 2020, Trump received 1,020,280 votes in Oklahoma and four years later that number grew slightly to 1,035,217.
Trump's win also brings a Republican-controlled Senate into office, while control of the House remains undecided. This election marks a historic moment, as Trump, at 78, becomes the oldest person elected to the presidency. His Vice President, Ohio Senator JD Vance, at 40, is the highest-ranking millennial in the U.S. government. In his victory speech, Trump thanked supporters and pledged to bring his agenda to fruition, including plans to reshape the federal government.

Trump’s opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, the first woman of color to lead a major party ticket, faced challenges throughout the campaign. Harris stepped into the presidential race after former President Joe Biden exited, amid public concerns over his age, fitness for the office, and ability to carry out a second term.
Though Harris initially energized portions of the Democratic base, she struggled to achieve the same level of support as Biden in 2020. In Oklahoma, Harris received 499,043 votes down 4,847 from Joe Biden's 503,890 in 2020.
