Mrs. DeHaven’s Flower Shop will celebrate 120 years of being in business in the new year.
The Flower Shop has designed bouquets for birthdays, anniversaries, and farewells since 1905.
"120 years, isn't that crazy,” Terrie Vaught, the owner, said. “This store has survived two World Wars, the Korean conflict, Vietnam, the Gulf War, the Spanish Flu, the Great Depression, COVID, Recessions and yet it keeps on ticking."
Vaught has not been around for all those events, but she feels the pressure to keep the standards the same as the women who made it what it is today.
"I sometimes expect Mrs. DeHaven or Trula to come walk through the doors and say oh you need to put this there,” Vaught said.
It started with Josephine DeHaven. She grew her own flowers and sold them to different businesses before opening her own brick-and-mortar store.
Mrs. DeHaven’s Flower Shop relocated several times before finding its home. Since the early 1930s, it stood near 15th and Cincinnati.
Vaught has the same mission as the women who were here a century ago: to share the timeless beauty of flowers.
"Those are our people. We love making our people happy,” Vaught said.
Plans are in the works for a celebration next year.
