A terminally ill woman put out a call for help on Facebook asking someone to downsize her quilt. She said it's the one thing that means the most to her while going through this tough time.

Jaime Strickland spends most of her time in her bed. It's the only option she has.

"I have ALS, and I am terminally ill," she said.

Due to her illness, Jaime speaks through an app on her phone.

"I was giving away personal belongings so my youngest son and ex-husband wouldn't have so much on their hands when I pass."

Each day, she sits in her bed with one thing that means so much to her.

"I really, really loved this quilt for more than a decade," Jaime said.

While the rest of her room is filled with medical supplies, she wanted her queen size quilt to fit her new bed. So Jaime put out a call for help on a Collinsville Facebook page to hem the quilt. Out of all the responses, she chose one from someone she had a deep connection with.

"It really just touched my heart that, you know, you want to leave something for your child," said Virginia Cannon. "You want your child to have something as a comfort when you're gone, and I was like, 'I'll help. Just tell me what you want.'"

Jaime chose Virginia to hem her quilt. Virginia knows how important it was because she's terminally ill too.

"I have brain tumors, and I face every day what will happen tomorrow or the next day," she said.

But the friendship between the two first started when Jaime gave Virginia a necklace that would remind her of her late daughter. Now, it was Virginia's turn to repay that kindness.

"Jaime was actually an answer to my prayer, to figure out what it is that I can do for others. Maybe I can't be in the college classroom teaching anymore, but I can be at home sewing something for somebody," Virginia said.

A friendship of two women who are learning about kindness from one another every day.

"I think we are both terminally ill, and we both offer whatever we can to the world. Our talents and treasures, our time and our hearts. There is something good in everything; you just have to look a little harder to find it sometimes," said Jaime.
