Mayoral Race Background

The 2025 Edmond mayoral race is the city’s only contested office this election cycle, as the Ward 3 and Ward 4 council seats were won by default.

  1. Candidates:
  2. Tom Robins: Former Ward 1 Councilman who resigned to run for mayor.
  3. David Hornbeek: Architect and second candidate to declare.
  4. Mark Nash: Finance professional who entered in November.
  5. Leonard Scott: U.S. Army veteran and vocal city government critic, who joined the race in December.

Key Issues

The candidates have emphasized several critical topics:

  1. Fiscal Responsibility: Following the failure of a proposed bond package to fund road, public safety, and park projects via increased property taxes.
  2. City Charter Reform: A provision in the Edmond City Charter requiring property ownership to hold public office has drawn criticism, with outgoing Councilwoman Christin Mugg calling it “unconstitutional.”

Election Dates

  1. Primary Election: Tuesday, Feb. 11
  2. General Election: Tuesday, April 1 (held even if a candidate wins more than 50% in the primary).
