A firearm has been located and a person will be placed under arrest following a threat at Northwest Classen High School, according to Oklahoma City police.

Students at the school are now being released after being placed on hold Wednesday afternoon due to the threat.

Police said resource officers requested them at Northwest Classen High School on Wednesday afternoon.

The following message was sent to families by the district:

Families of NW Classen High School,
School leaders have been made aware of a threat of violence against our school. Law enforcement is currently investigating the situation. Out of abundance of caution, our school is currently on hold, which means one is allowed to enter or exit the building and students are held in classrooms.
All students and staff are safe and we will keep you updated as needed. The safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority and we thank you for your continued support of NW Classen High School and OKCPS.

Wednesday evening the school sent a message to parents saying:

"The safety and well-being of our students and staff is always our top priority. Today, school leaders were made aware that a student may have been in possession of a weapon at school. As soon as this was reported, the school administration quickly took action to place the school on a “hold”, which means no one is allowed to enter or exit the building and students are held in classrooms. Out of an abundance of caution, all students remained safely in school throughout the search and removal of the weapon by law enforcement.
We are incredibly thankful to the students who followed the “see something, say something” protocol and reported the concern to school leaders. Their actions helped ensure a safe environment for everyone. We also appreciate our law enforcement partners who responded to retrieve the weapon and remove the student(s) involved. The student(s) will be disciplined in accordance with the student code of conduct and could face criminal charges.
While the timing of the incident meant that lunch was interrupted and some students were unable to eat, we are extremely proud of our NW Classen students who respectfully cooperated with school leaders and local officials. We also appreciate the dedication of our NWC staff who remained focused on student well-being in the midst of today’s events, including a special thank you to our school nurse who ensured that all students who needed medical accommodations were taken care of during the hold.
As a reminder, weapons of any kind are not permitted on our campuses, and any item that might pose—or even imitate—a threat to our students or staff is strictly prohibited. This may be a good opportunity to talk with your student(s) about what is and isn't appropriate to bring to school.
Thank you for your continued support of NW Classen High School and OKCPS"
