Norman’s three mayoral candidates participated in a debate on Jan. 30, discussing key issues before the Feb. 11 election. The event was moderated by NonDoc Editor-in-Chief Tres Savage and News 9 Capitol reporter Haley Weger and live-streamed on the Facebook pages of NonDoc and News 9.

Who is running for Mayor of Norman?

  1. Larry Heikkila is the incumbent Mayor, defeated former Norman Mayor Breea Clark in 2021.
  2. Stephen Tyler Holman has been the Ward 7 Councilman since 2013 and is the longest-tenured council member in Norman.
  3. Riley Mulinix is an attorney and a newcomer to the local government.

Key issues

Holman said he wants to build on Norman’s strengths while addressing its challenges. In a press release, Heikkila emphasized that he wants to increase compensation for first responders and boost funding for their departments.

When is the election?

The election is on Feb. 11. If no candidate receives a majority, the top two will advance to a runoff on April 1.
