Firefighters battled a large house fire overnight in northwest Oklahoma City that nearly spread to neighboring homes, officials said.
The fire broke out just after midnight near Northwest 16th Street and Broadway. Crews arriving at the scene saw flames shooting from the vacant home, visible from miles away.
Battalion Chief Derak Stewart with the Oklahoma City Fire Department said firefighters faced multiple challenges, including low water pressure, strong winds and the close proximity of nearby houses.
“A lot of fire, and these houses are pretty close together,” Stewart said. “It was a very, very tough firefight at the beginning to keep that fire from spreading to other structures.”
No injuries were reported, and officials confirmed no one was inside the vacant home. However, as a precaution, nearby residents were evacuated.
OG&E was also called to the scene to address downed power lines, but no outages were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
