Freezing temperatures did not keep family and friends from gathering at Joe B. Barnes Regional Park in Midwest City on Saturday.
They came out to say goodbye to 19-year-old Promise Cooper who was murdered last week.
They released 19 pink balloons and showed off an oversized picture of Cooper.
Tia Cooper reflected on the many things about her daughter that made her smile.
“She was really goofy. But she's just a beautiful soul. She loved little kids. She loved to babysit. She's just. She's a really chill little girl. And growing up, and she. It's not much. She just didn't deserve what happened to her,” said Cooper.
Tuesday, according to police Promise Cooper was in an SUV being driven by her boyfriend Tristan Stoner when she was shot and later died.
Initially, Stoner claimed he and Cooper had been involved in a road rage incident when he exchanged gunfire with an unknown driver.
Midwest City Police say Stoner changed his story several times.
Police show records of Cooper phoning 911 about 45 minutes prior to the shooting saying Stoner was driving around her apartment complex wearing a ski mask and threatening to harm her.
Cooper said, “A couple days prior, and she told me some things I don't want to say too much but she told me some things and it just, it's not making sense.”
Cooper added she still does not have full closure and hopes to get answers about the death of her daughter.
