As cold, dry winter air settles in, many people struggle with dry, irritated skin. Dr. Lacey Anderson shares expert tips to keep skin hydrated and healthy during the colder months.

One of the best ways to combat winter dryness is to use a quality body cream rather than a lotion with alcohol, which can further dry out the skin. Applying body cream twice daily, especially on problem areas, can help maintain moisture.

For rough, scaly areas like elbows and feet, body creams containing glycolic acid or lactic acid can help exfoliate dead skin and promote healthy cell turnover. Dr. Anderson recommends Amlactin, which contains lactic acid, or glycolic acid creams like Mederma AG and Alpha Skin Care to improve skin tone, texture, and hydration.

Those with sensitive skin should conduct a patch test before using exfoliating creams to avoid irritation.
