A movie inspired by the band “Green Day” is filming in Oklahoma; creating jobs and revenue for Oklahomans, the OKC Film & Creative Industries told News 9 on Monday.

The Filmed in Oklahoma Act, which lawmakers signed into law back in May 2021, has had a record-breaking impact on the local economy, the OKC Film & Creative Industries Office stated.

“We saw what Twisters did. It gave us a global audience for Oklahoma City and Oklahoma,” said Executive Director of OKC Film & Creative Industries Jill Simpson

Since its inception, the office explained, the program has generated hundreds of millions in revenue, in addition to creating 22,000 jobs for Oklahomans.

“It's creating creative jobs that are keeping our younger generation here as opposed to 10 or 20 years ago when you had to move out of state to work in the film industry or tv production,” said Simpson.

Live Nation Entertainment, the latest production company to cash in on the incentivized rebate is shooting a comedy called “New Year’s Rev,” the office shared. The film is about a group of friends who travel cross-country to open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve.

“They were looking at numerous locations including New Mexico. They came in and scouted, and they really liked what they saw,” Simpson recalled.

Live Nation Entertainment decided to film in Oklahoma.

“They’ve got a director named Lee Kirk who’s an actor married to Jenna Fischer from The Office. She’s in the movie. Angela Kinsey’s in the movie; Fred Armisen from Saturday Night Live in Portlandia,” Simpson remembered.

She added that New Year’s Rev will likely wrap up shooting in mid-March.
