When army veteran Scott Kovalik moved to Oklahoma, he bought a nice house in Yukon, not realizing the challenges it would bring just two years later.

“Since I moved here, I have been getting repeated calls from roofing companies, and yard companies and all kinds of people pitching their services,” said homeowner Scott Kovalik.

After the recent cold weather, Kovalik realized the need for some of those services.

“The toilets on that side of the house both started running slowly and I assumed it was related to the freeze,” said Kovalik.

As the weather began to warm up, he called a plumber just to have things checked out.

“There were a couple of obstructions in the line that he would not be able to clear and that it would probably cause problems again in the future,” said Kovalik.

The sewer lines outside his home needed to be replaced and the estimated cost to do that was around $17,000.

“I thought about it and realized that I just plain couldn’t afford it, not being on disability,” said Kovalik.

But as things got worse, Scott became more desperate.

“My shower backup and pretty soon my entire bathroom floor was covered in water,” said Kovalik.

“When I heard his story and how he went through a stroke and he is a veteran and I have a son that is in the military, it just kind of hit heart,” said Joe Norton, owner of Amped Plumbing.

When Norton heard about the situation, he knew he had to help.

“We know that he wants it done, he just can’t do it at the moment, and that’s when we just stepped in and said that’s fine, we can as a company,” said Norton.

Through the company’s Giving Back to Oklahoma program, they were able to completely replace the sewer lines at no cost to Kovalik.

“We try to do one or two families a month and so we’ll go out there, if it’s a hot water tank, it’s a hot water tank, if it’s a main line, it’s a main line,” said Norton.

Lifting a huge burden off of Kovalik.

“Incredibly relieved and as I said incredibly blessed,” said Kovalik.

“Anytime we can give back and help, you know that’s what it’s about,” said Norton.
