Construction is underway at Bethany Children's Health Center in Bethany for a new 200,000 square-foot addition.
This project is something the community and the center have been discussing for some time now.
The CEO of the center, Nico Gomez, said through help from community donors and philanthropic providers, they were able to receive help with financing the new addition for the center.
Child & Adolescent Neurologist for the center Deepti Chrusciel said in 2024, the center had 30,000 visits from patients.
Gomez added, “The kids needed additional access to rehabilitative services to make sure that they had access to pediatric neurologists and also physicians who were dealing with muscle and bone issues.”
Gomez also said the focus over the years has been inpatient care but there is a need for outpatient services.
The project is costing 178 million dollars of which 34 million dollars has been donated by people in the community and philanthropic providers.
Gomez said the difference between the donations and the total cost will be financed.
The new four-story structure will have a coffee shop and rehabilitation center on its first floor.
The second floor is going to be clinic space including several exam rooms.
Gomez said the third floor is going to be expansive, with therapeutic spaces that include large therapy gyms.
Gomez said that the expansion should be completed by Memorial Day. They expect to have the roof on top of the building with the anticipated schedule of competition at the end of 2026, in hopes of opening in 2027.
