Wildfires have burned 7,000 acres in Luther, destroying 12 homes and forcing emergency crews to battle flames for a second day. Across the state, more than 400 homes have been damaged, with 142 people hospitalized and four confirmed deaths. Damage assessments remain ongoing.

In Luther, 22 volunteer firefighters have been working around the clock to contain the fire and extinguish lingering hot spots.

"We take pride in being able to stop those things. We just weren't able to get in front of it. We just couldn't," said Luther Fire Chief Joseph Figueroa, who expressed gratitude for the food and water donations that have helped sustain firefighters.

Officials urge residents to remain alert as fire crews continue their efforts to control the flames.
