A couple who moved from Seattle to Luther in September is facing the unimaginable after a wildfire took their home last weekend, they told News 9 on Thursday.
Nakia Boston and her boyfriend Isiah Kirby said they lost more than their home – they lost their precious fur babies, Nova and Milo, as well.
“We just got that pressure washer,” Kirby said to Boston as they looked through their home’s charred remains.
Boston explained that she is a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.
“There’s always blessings- things to be thankful for and lessons that come out of everything. The fact that nobody was home on the property when this happened is a huge blessing,” Boston shared.
The couple was left with the work clothes they had on their backs.
“And surprisingly, that day I brought my bible to work. So, my Bible’s one of the only things that survived the fire, which holds a lot to me,” Boston reflected.
Managing to find a few untouched dishes, Boston said, “We're not too big on material things, especially because in the Bible it talks about how material things can blind you. So losing this, it was time to focus on the more important things.”
She said the couple loved their collection of clothes.
“So, I almost take it as a sign that we were too focused on those things. Now we can focus on patience, love, building relationships, and I feel like there’s no better time to practice patience, love – your morals – than in crisis. Right now, it’s just a lot of character development,” she said with a smile.
