It’s a normal day here at the HeadStart program in Anadarko, a routine that has been repeated everyday over the last 55 years.
Her name is Princetta Pendarvis and at the Head start program in Anadarko she is the cornerstone.
“She has taught so many people, so many kids. They just love her," said Renee Hill, director of the Head start program in Anadarko.
Not surprising, since she has been there for over half a century.
“I think this is the 55th year,” said Pendarvis.
In 55 years, her passion for the kids is just as strong as ever.
“Each one of them is an individual, and I teach individual, I don’t teach just the group," she said. "So, I want to make sure when they leave, I’m going to give them a hug and tell them something sweet.”
“She doesn’t show favoritism, they are all her babies,” said Hill.
Her impact is felt throughout the entire community.
“I have taught, right now I am teaching four generations,” said Pendarvis.
She is teaching with the same vigor that she started with 55 years ago.
“I am 82 years old,” said Pendarvis.
At 82, of course retirement is a real option.
“I think this is going to be my last year, but they tell me I say that every year,” said Pendarvis.
But the school and the community isn’t quite ready for the realization of her retirement.
“Oh yeah, she’ll be back next year,” said Hill.
The school already has a contingency plan for when she does retire.
“I’m sure if she retires one of these years, she’ll be back to volunteer,” said Hill.
“I know I can’t stay forever, but that will be the saddest day of my life,” said Pendarvis.
