Pet of the Week: Russet

Our Pet of the Week is Russet, a sweet 9-month-old mixed dog who is spry and full of energy.

On today's Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages Porch, Tevis Hillis speaks with Caitlin Mazaheri with the Oklahoma Humane Society who brought her little friend to the studio.

Russet is in a foster home right now with children and other dogs, and does great with all of them. Him being so young means the high energy is pretty typical, but he's just real loving, active and fun.

"You can go meet him today at 7500 Northwestern Avenue at our adoption center," Mazaheri said. "He wouldn't be with us if it wasn't for our Angel Fund."

Russet was brought into the OK Humane Society in October of last year, where they noticed a heart murmur. Through the Angel Fund program, they sent him to Colorado State University for surgery where they repaired an issue with his heart valve. "Without that, he wouldn't have been able to likely live the long life that he should," Mazaheri said. "So that is made possible from our Angel Fund. It is for special medical cases like that, that we wouldn't be able to bring these dogs in the program and live without."
