The Oklahoma City Utility Department has launched a pilot study to inspect and inventory thousands of public and private water service lines in the metro.

The study is being done in accordance with the Environment Protection Agency requirement for all water systems to have an inventory that identifies service lines by their material type.

The city said customers included in this study will get a postcard in the mail notifying them the city’s inspection contractor will be in their area soon.

Inspections started in June, and the results will be posted on the city’s website by Oct. 16, 2024.

The city said they will notify customers who have lines identified as lead or galvanized lines that transported water that had already flowed through a lead service line.

If you’re notified, the city said the drinking water meets all federal and state safe drinking water standards. The city said they also take steps to reduce the potential for material in lead and galvanized lines from leaching into drinking water.
