A pack of dogs attacked a woman in Northeast Oklahoma City late Saturday night. The man who stepped into help is now bedridden from his injuries.
Roosevelt Alford, more agile then he is now, jumped up to see what was all the commotion.
"Go to the door and look down the street and see these dogs attacking this lady and she was hollering for help," said Alford.
He grabbed a stick to fend off four dogs who were mauling his friend just outside of his home near Northeast 29th Street and Lindsay Avenue.
"I just hit one with a stick and it broke over him. It didn't phase him at all so I got back and I got my bat, went back down there and got to hitting and that didn't help any either," said Alford.
He kept trying but said nothing seemed to phase the dogs.
"They were snatching and pulling at her. They were tearing her apart," he explained.
She was still crying out for help when he said at least one of the dogs turned on him. The dogs bit his legs, back and even broke his arm. He eventually lost consciousness.
"I tried to get back to the porch and got back and fell out," he said.
Oklahoma City Police had to fill him in on the rest of the details. Officers said they arrived around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night, breaking up the pack of dogs by shooting and killing one of them.
The other dogs were taken to a shelter.
Alfrod said he'd prefer not to see those dogs, ever again.
"I couldn't do nothing about it," he said, " But I did what I could."
Oklahoma City Police have not released the woman's name, but we do know she is being cared for at a local hospital.
