Barry Switzer has been an honorary head coach for the Oklahoma Special Olympics for more than four decades.
On Thursday night, the organization thanked him for all he's done since 1974.
Switzer was honored at the organization's Gold Medal Gala at Southern Hills Country Club.
He has been an honorary coach, cheerleader and recruiter for the Special Olympics from the beginning, and hasn't missed a year.
"Been involved with them from the beginning, really,” said Switzer. “I reflected on who got me in it, and how I've seen it grow from where it was at Wantland Field at Edmond, Oklahoma, to where it is today. And the great leadership, the volunteers, the coaches, and everybody that made it happen, it's a special team now, and it's always been special to me."
