The NAACP is collecting signatures to request a grand jury investigation into the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, the organization says.

According to the civil rights organization, the petition stems from findings from Appleseed, a nonprofit justice center in Tulsa, which alleges wrongful removal of children from homes, overreach and misconduct from state employees.

The complaint also says state employees sexually assaulted children in the custody of juvenile detention centers.

The NAACP will hold a petition drive at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at the organization's local headquarters in Oklahoma City, located near North Martin Luther King Avenue and Northeast 23rd Street.

The organization says it needs over 5,000 signatures for a grand jury investigation.
