A unique piece of war weaponry is up for sale at the Wilshire Gun Range in Oklahoma City.
Collector Steve Hazelwood says he’s willing to part with what’s known as a British Chieftain MK Tank. Hazelwood operates “Oklahoma Machine Guns” inside the Wilshire Gun Range. He says he bought the tank two years ago, after a wealthy collector in California died.
Hazelwood is asking a quarter-million dollars for the tank. “That’s not an unreasonable offer,” he said. “The Foundation it came from is very well known. He had over 250 tanks he restored, including some of the rarest and most valuable in the world.”
Governor Mary Fallin rode on the tank during the Wilshire Gun Range’s Grand Opening last year.
Hazelwood says he’s willing to sell it, because there just really isn’t anywhere he can drive it. The tank is being stored at a secret facility, known only by a few people at Wilshire, and the local ATF.
While the tank has been stripped of its weaponry, Hazelwood says it’s still very valuable. He says a few years ago, the U.S. government made it nearly impossible to import tanks here. “The tank is probably the Holy Grail. It’s one of the most valuable and the hardest to attain.”
