Two Oklahoma City Police Officers came to the aid of a woman and helped to celebrate her special day.
Saturday afternoon, officers were called to the 5800 block of W. Reno Ave. in reference to traffic trouble. The 911 caller said an elderly woman was sitting in a wheelchair near the road and appeared distressed.
Upon arrival, officers located the woman who was sobbing and frustrated. She explained that while on her way to a local supermarket to buy a cake for her 75th birthday, her motorized wheelchair broke down. The woman was saddened and asked if the officers could help her home, as the wheelchair was her only means of transportation.
Two officers, Amy Hanson and Travis Vernier, came to the woman’s rescue. They both loaded the broken wheelchair and transported Ms. Carroll to the grocery store. They bought her a birthday cake and candles, then took her back home to celebrate.
Many who have read the story through social media have asked how they too can help celebrate Mr. Carroll’s 75th birthday. If you would like to send a birthday card you can do so through the Oklahoma City Police Department Office of Media Relations at 701 Colcord Dr., Oklahoma City, OK 73102.
