Police have now identified the officer who fired the fatal shots after responding to a domestic incident in Edmond last week.
Edmond Police say 15-year veteran officer Neil Martin remains on routine administrative leave while they continue to investigate the events that led up to the deadly officer-involved shooting in the Forest Oaks housing addition.
Police say around 5 p.m. on May 27, a woman called 911 saying her husband, identified as 24-year-old Garrett Sandeno, had several weapons and may try to kill himself. That was after she told him she wanted a divorce.
Martin and another officer responded to the home and saw Sandeno in the 1700 block of Ridgecrest Road. He was walking around the area with what the officers thought was a gun at his side.
According to a report, the officers gave Sandeno multiple verbal commands to drop his weapon. When the officers were threatened by Sandeno with his weapon, Martin fired two shots, hitting Sandeno one time in the chest.
Sandeno was transported to OU Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
