Former Oklahoma State All-American and Boston Celtics rookie Marcus Smart has been invited to compete on the USA Selects basketball team, according to Yahoo Sports.
Smart, who was drafted No. 6 overall in June’s NBA Draft, would be on the team selected to compete against the U.S. national team in scrimmages and various preparatory situations before the latter heads off to compete in the FIBA World Cup in Spain at the end of August.
In addition to Smart, other players reportedly invited to join the Selects include Chicago rookie Doug McDermott, the Orlando pair of Victor Oladipo and Tobias Harris, and brothers Mason Plumlee and Miles Plumlee of the Nets and Suns, respectively.
The dynamic 6-foot-4 point guard was the Big 12 player of the year and freshman of the year in 2013 and was voted to the All-Big 12 first team as a sophomore this past season.
