Firefighters Contain Grass Fire Near Newcastle

Firefighters have contained a grass fire Friday afternoon near Newcastle.

According to the fire department, the grass fire was burning at Mile Marker 96 on the HE Bailey Turnpike, near the Newcastle toll booth.

HE Bailey was never shut down and traffic wasn't affected.

Tuttle, Newcastle, and Bridge Creeks fire departments responded to the fire.

Fire officials say the grass fire started just north of the turnpike and was moving northeast towards a neighborhood. Crews were able to stop the fire before it could affect that neighborhood.
