Here is the latest: The winter storm is tracking on schedule to bring several rounds of precipitation to the state in the next 24 to 36 hours. Oklahoma City metro is still expected to receive between 2 and 6 inches of snow before all is said and done. There may be some spotty and localized totals that are higher than that in the 8-inch range.

Today, we will have a few rounds of snow with some sleet but the general trend will be for this to be a snow system. One to 2 inches are possible today. An ice storm has begun and will continue overnight for southeast Oklahoma.

Tonight is when the heaviest snowfall is expected, and all indications are for some periods of heavy snow with even maybe some thunder! The winds will be up tonight, so some drifting is possible. The southeast parts of the state will see some heavy icing tonight and power outages, broken tree limbs and broken power poles are expected. The roads and surfaces will become an ice rink!

Tomorrow, the storm will move out late morning with a blanket of snow left in its wake. For the southeast, the ice will transition to sleet and snow before ending. This should turn out to be a catastrophic event for areas south and east of a line from Duncan to Seminole.

Very cold conditions are expected to continue through the weekend. Watch out for bitter cold lows Saturday morning. We are expecting temperatures in the single digits. This will allow for some less insulated homes to develop frozen water pipes. Let the faucets drip water Friday night.
