Arson investigators are trying to determine what sparked a fire at a vacant house at N.W. 21st Street and St. Clair Avenue.

The fire started early Thursday morning in the 3500 block of N.W. 21st Street. The home was vacant and no one was hurt, but the flames and smoke caused significant damage to the one-story structure.

It’s not known what started the fire. Firefighters say it’s not weather-related. Because the house was supposed to be empty, investigators say the cause of the fire may be suspicious.
