Oklahoma State junior Andrew Heaney was dominant on the mound in game one of the Bedlam series and his efforts are paying off as he was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week Monday.
The honor is the second of his career after receiving the award on March 19 of this season.
In game one against rival Oklahoma, Heaney threw his third shutout and fourth complete game of the season allowing three hits and issuing one walk along with seven strikeouts.
Furthermore, Heaney allowed only two OU runners to even make it past first base to help the Cowboys to their ninth-straight victory—the longest winning streak since 2008.
Heaney sat down the Sooners in order in the first, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings and retired 13-straight hitters to end the game. With the win, Heaney improved to 7-1 on the season, and his ERA fell to 1.65.
He ranks first in the league in strikeouts with 109 and shutouts with three, while also ranking second in innings pitched (93.0) and opponent batting average (.188).
His honor marks the fifth time a Cowboy hurler has earned multiple Pitcher of the Week honors in the same season (Brae Wright, 2006; Scott Baker, 2003; Matt Smith, 2000 & 1998).
Heaney joins Jared Kings of Kansas State who was the conference player of the week and Missouri's John Miles who was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the week.
