DEL CITY, Oklahoma -- A woman dies early Wednesday morning after what Del City police call a "low-speed" pursuit.

Capt. Jody Suit says a Del City police officer saw a pickup truck coming toward him around 5 a.m. on S. Bryant Avenue near Delmar. The truck almost crashed into him head on, but the officer performed an evasive maneuver.

The officer turned around and pursued the truck.  Speeds stayed around 35 to 40 mph.  A few minutes later, the woman behind the wheel lost control on a curve, crashed into a tree and rolled into a ravine.

The pickup landed upside down. Firefighters from both Midwest City and Del City worked for more than an hour to free the driver. She died at the scene. Her name has not been released.

Capt. Suit says the owner of the truck had reported it stolen.  He says the owner and the woman were acquaintances,  but police aren't sure how well they knew each other.
