A home in an upscale Bethany neighborhood catches fire and investigators are calling it “suspicious.”

“We found several spot fires. Someone set them in several different locations,” said Jason Mahaffey, with the Bethany Fire Dept.

The large home in the 8200 block of Brownsville Ln. caught fire around 3 a.m. Wednesday. Firefighters say, along with the spot fires, a back door was open to the house, which has been vacant for more than a year.

Minutes before the fire started, Greg Welsh had arrived at his mother's house just a few doors down. He tells News 9 he was getting items out of his SUV when he says he was shot with the a BB gun.

“That scared the hell out of me,” said Welsh.

Welsh didn't think to call 911 because he was moving a box with his own BB gun at the time and thought police would just think he shot himself.

“I wish I would have called 911,” said Welsh, who insists he did not accidentally shoot himself.

He thinks whoever shot him with the BB gun probably had something to do with the fire. Firefighters and Police have heard Welsh's story and are investigating.
