ARDMORE, Okla. (AP) -- Oklahoma's commissioner of public safety Thursday announced the launch of a program to notify police and the public when an at-risk elderly person goes missing.
Similar to the Amber Alert for missing children, the Silver Alert program was highlighted by Commissioner of Public Safety Kevin Ward during a meeting of police chiefs in Ardmore.
Under the program, law enforcement agencies will issue alerts whenever they need assistance in locating missing seniors who are frail, who have medication needs or who are suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
