The family of a man killed, in what police call a random shooting at a Tulsa gun range, said they are in shock over his death.

Mitchell Bab's parents said they do not understand why a customer would shoot him, especially when surveillance video shows the two being friendly moments before the shooting. It was last Friday when Mitchell visited the 2A Shooting Center near Admiral and Yale to shoot a gun he had just bought.

Surveillance video from the range shows Mitchell rented a booth and started talking in a friendly manner with a man near him. However, when Mitchell turned to leave, the man shot him in the back and killed him. Police said that the shooter, Christopher Washington, then shot himself. Washington is still in the hospital but not expected to survive.

Mitchell was in town visiting from Louisiana to see his grandma for her birthday and his father, Dena Johnson, said their family grew up going to gun ranges and considered it a hobby.

Johnson said he just wants to know why, and said "God has a purpose for everything. This man not being here or whatever, I can't talk to him but I'd rather could have had a conversation with him."
