Oklahoma City police said one man is dead after an early Friday morning shooting and car crash in northeast Oklahoma City.
Officers said the shooting victim was a young black man in his early twenties. He passed away at the hospital around before 3 a.m. Friday.
Police said the victim was driving northbound on North Lincoln Blvd. near Northeast 50th Street when something caused the driver to cross over the median and crash into the parking lot of the ‘Till the Last Drop Coffee shop.
“He was in the car, slumped over, had blood around his head,” OCPD Lt. Cody Koelsh said. “We could see what possibly was a gunshot wound to his shoulder, but couldn’t really tell around his head or anything.”
Police also said the victim still had his foot on the gas pedal.
“The exhaust on the car caught the grass on fire. Didn’t ever end up catching the car on fire, caught the grass, but the fire department was able to get here in time,” Koelsh said. “They were able to put it out.”
Crime scene investigators canvassed the area to look for anything to lead them to a suspect.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of Lincoln and NE 50th Street were shut down for hours. They have since reopened.
The victim’s name has not been released.
