You guys were fired up after my comments Tuesday night about the Land Run monument in Bricktown.
I talked about the "sit in" around it planned for this weekend calling for its removal on the grounds that it's racist against Native Americans. Here's what you had to say
Wendie first: "I think everyone has lost their minds. They do not speak for all natives! #Seminole"
Connie wrote: 'In Oklahoma we celebrate our Native American history. Note the statue atop the capitol dome. However, we also celebrate our frontier spirit, i.e. the land run"
William agreed with me about the First American's Museum being built a mile away:
"While the land run statues represent the beginnings of the state of Oklahoma the developing cultural museum will bring awareness of the original inhabitants of this grand land," he said.
Kristin said: "It's also a beautiful piece of art. It happened, and we can't change that fact, but we can teach our children about it"
Carissa was the lone response against the monument saying, “Here's an easy way to look at it. A man raped your children and killed your spouse and lit your home on fire. Where should we build his monument??"
Finally, from Juanita: "As a rule I usually do not pay attention, and mostly don't agree with "your 2 cents" but on this subject I DO agree, that statue should remain and NOT BE DEFACED!"
I'm Kelly Ogle and that’s YOUR 2 Cents.
