A local nonprofit is already holiday shopping.
There are 165 days until Christmas and Operation Christmas Train Set Foundation is preparing its wish list.
Due to COVID-19, the nonprofit decided to do a Christmas in July donation campaign for the first time.
The organization recruited dozens of metro businesses, mainly restaurants, to display boxes for donations.
Item like toys, clothes, coats, school supplies and hand sanitizer that are placed in the boxes will eventually be put in backpacks and given to families in need.
“A lot of families are out of work, a lot of families are on unemployment, a lot people misplaced from their jobs,” said Dustin Fisher, with Operation Christmas Train Set Foundation.
Starting in October, families will be able to apply for a backpack at www.OCTSFOK.org.
Donations will be collected until the end of August.
Monetary donations can be made at any Oklahoma Arvest Bank.
