The University of Oklahoma announced Thursday that it will initiate mandatory diversity training for all students, faculty and staff.
The training will take place online beginning next week for those learning, teaching and working at all three of OU's campuses.
The course will be required to take at least once every three years at the individual's desired pace. The university said there will be other education and workshop opportunities available annually.
“Our university has a dynamic, promising future, but we simply cannot reach our full potential unless we become a true place of belonging where every member of the OU family feels seen, heard and valued,” University of Oklahoma President Joseph Harroz Jr. said in a statement. “Involving all students, faculty and staff in this new diversity training program reinforces our belief that we all share the responsibility of advancing fundamental change.”
The course will take individuals learning modules that address topics such as "identities, power, privilege and creating a culture of respect."
