The Oklahoma Department of Human Services will begin taking applications for those needing help with their heating bills for the winter.

Oklahomans will be able to apply for the federally-funded "Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program” starting on Monday.

According to state leaders, they are aware there is a big need for aid this year due to the financial impact many people are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

State officials say many households receiving public assistance from DHS have already been pre-authorized for this program and do not need to apply, but those households who were not pre-authorized should have received a notice in the mail letting them know about the open enrollment times.

Those interested can visit OKDHSLive.org to apply and will need to have their latest utility bill, social security number, ID and verification of income.
