With projected snow totals for the weekend being compared to the Christmas Eve blizzard of 2009, many people are planning to stay at home.

However, if you’re one of those essential people that has to get out, the Red Cross said these supplies should be kept in your car.

"Main thing is be sure and keep your car full, always keep the tank full,” Johnnie Munn, of the Red Cross said. “There are safety kits that you can put together much like the kits that we have in the homes, where you put water for everybody, snacks, extra blankets, flashlights, things along those lines.”

It’s also recommended to keep cell phones fully charged with a backup charger. Also make sure you let someone know where you're going, your expected time of arrival and the route you plan to take.
