The Green Country Habitat for Humanity and its subsidiary, Boomtown Development, are working to revitalize portions of Tulsa.

They held a groundbreaking Saturday near 33rd and Columbia to kick-off the project.

Jessica Walton and her son, Jaxson, are counting down the days until they move in to their first-ever home.

"Our house will be the spot, I'm sure,” Walton said. “A lot of times we hear people say, you know, this means generational wealth for our family, but for me and my son, this means generational stability.”

Walton said she can picture already picture her new home.

"Riding go carts along the street and having family picnics in the park right there behind us, and us just having mommy and son dates,” Walton said.

Community leaders are helping build new beginnings for Tulsa families, and the Green Country Habitat for Humanity said it's starting from the ground up.

Peace Pointe is a 10-home development kicking off the nonprofit’s new North Tulsa Initiative which is a five-to-seven yearlong, $35 million project. The project is expected to result in 250 single-family homes.

Green Country Habitat for Humanity president and CEO Cameron Walker said they're redefining what affordable housing looks like by offering buyers a monthly mortgage not exceeding 30% of the household's income.

"We are very excited for the 10 families that are going to come together here and create a new little community that we hope will continue to expand, mesh into the existing homes,” Walker said.

Tulsa's trailblazers said it's a grassroots effort. The key to a prosperous community is quality housing that won't break the bank.

"I'm really excited, just moving in the house and being able to have a house,” Jaxson Walton said.

"I'm going with the farmhouse vibe. I'm obsessed,” Walton said. “He (Jaxson) is a huge Michael Jackson fan, so his room will be MJ all over,” Walton said.

Developers hope to have these first 10 homes complete around the beginning of July.
